"Now this is what I call Southern Hospitality!" she said as she delicately wiped orange marmalade from the corners of her mouth. Killer lifted his head form the porcelain dish of eggs on his tiny table and barked. "You're right, we may never go back to New Jersey"
They finished breakfast and headed downtown. One of their hosts, Jack, had told her of a new restaurant on Newcastle next to her favorite store, The Market, and she and Killer decided to check it out. Lola's heels clicked a stacatto beat on the sidewalk as they made their way to Newcastle Street. Killer stopping to check out the dog news on the streetlights they passed. As they neared The Market, she saw the red and gold front of the new restaurant, Brunswick Brewburgers.
"That will be lunch for us, Killer" she said "and we can eat outside! Yum!" Killer's collar and leash flashed in the morning sunlight, as he nodded his head in agreement. Just a few steps further, and they were in The Market. Everything was changed! It was like magic! They were in The Market the day before, and it was beautiful then, but it was wide open and welcoming now. She spied the fur throw on the fabulous linen tufted Aiden Gray sofa. " If we stay here, Killer, these are going in our new house in Old Town."
Lola picked up Killer and headed to the office so he could play with his new friend, Murphy. Kathy Cable was in the office putting the finishing touches on a banner for First Friday. It said "Come meet Miss High Cotton USA, and vie for the title of Miss High Cotton, Brunswick" Lola loved a contest, and in her mind's eye, she was already wearing the crown...and it matched Killers collar and leash.
What Lola and Killer didn't know was that back in New Jersey, Tommy Two-Chins was meeting with Sal "The Fish" Salidino, and the subject of the meeting was Lola and her little dog. "I don't care what you have to do!" said Tommy slamming his fist hard on the table. "Find her...and fast."
Stay tuned for the next installment of Lola and Killer in the South.
